Charity Bike Ride for SAMA Wales
London to Cardiff 2009.

On the 26th of Febuary Clive Jones, a Blinded Ex Welsh Guardsmen and his sighted guide Les Heyhoe ,himself a former member of the Royal Navy rode from London to Cardiff in aid of the Falklands Charities.

The approxamate 200 mile trip was done on a ZEM 4 wheel (side by side) Tandem. The Battallion kindly loaned a transit van and a support team consisting of L/Cpl Buckley of No 2 Company and GDSM Gardener Allen of the MT Platoon.(They were the back up vehicle, admin and most importantly there for safety.)

The ride started from the Guards Memorial in London heading along the A40  towards RAF High Wycombe where the Adjutant Laura Reegan was there to greet them.

After leaving RAF High Wycombe the following morning, they carried on to the next overnight stay at RAF Brize Norton, where they had overnight free accomodation at the Hotel Gateway.

On day 3, after a discussion about the traffic, weather and the gears on the bike (which started playing up the night before) it was decided to cut across country in the van towards and over the Severn Bridge to the next hotel, where fortunately a gym was on hand so that the missed 24 miles could be made up.

Sunday 1st March a sunny Saint Davids Day, was the final leg, and tired, dripping with sweat but never the less in high spirits arrived at the Falklands War Memorial in Alexander Gardens near the City Hall in Cardiff at around 13.10. They were met by several members of the Royal British Legion Motorcycle Group, friends, well wishers and L/Cpl Morris 13, who was in Tunic order.

Clive would like to thank the Welsh Guards for their help and commitment, Mr Les Heyhoe, L/Cpl Buckley, GDSM Gardener Allen, Captain Robinson, Sgt Hayes and L/Cpl Morris 13 of Maindy Bks, Chris Duggan from SAMA Wales and everyone else who helped in making this event possible.

Although the bike ride has finished the work for which the money raised for goes on and anyone wishing to make a donation are more than welcome to by contacting Chris Duggan through the SAMA Wales website or Clive Jones at clive@clivejones6.wanadoo.co.uk ( telephone 07920426119)
